Supported Entries

Mudi Club of America (MCA) Policy for Club Sponsored Supported Entries

  • Supported Entries are intended to focus on conformation and building entries to achieve major points for dogs and bitches in the regular conformation classes. Only Specialty Clubs having met the requirements and sanctioned by the AKC may support the entry of its breed at an All-breed or Group Club event. Therefore, the MCA must give permission in writing to all-breed/group clubs to list the entries of Mudi in their shows as being supported by the MCA. It must be remembered that the event itself is hosted by another club and is not technically an MCA event or specialty.

  • Because the entries in the show are being supported by the MCA through its members, it is imperative that the membership in the entire Region be involved in the process in order to ascertain if there is enough interest and support for a Supported Entry. This should be ascertained prior to making application. Although not required, it is encouraged to consider all-breed/group club shows that offer other venues in association with their conformation show because of the versatile nature of the Mudi. However, the ultimate success or failure of the Supported Entry is determined by the number of class entries in conformation and will be the primary determinant for approval of Supported Entries at a particular location.

  • Application for a Supported Entry must be made with the MCA Specialty Event Chair and the BOD, a minimum of 6 months before the show for “repeat” events occurring with the same all breed/group club at least every two years and 8 months before the show for “new” events, which are with all-breed/group clubs that our club has not supported previously or when more than two years has elapsed since the last Supported Entry. Further, for a particular all breed/group club to be considered, Mudi entries must have been at least the minimum for a 3pt major in that region in both class dogs and bitches for the last two years. Entries that awarded a major are preferred.

  1. Applications are made by filling out the form APPLICATION FOR HOLDING A SUPPORTED ENTRY. The form is available on the club website.

  2. Applications must be made by the “Supported Entry Chair” who is a MCA member in good standing.

  3. No Supported Entries may be held within 6 weeks of the MCA National Specialty or within 30 days of another supported entry if within a 200 mile radius. (taken from the AKC Judging ruling on supported entries)

  4. No more than two club sponsored Supported Entries may be held per calendar year in each AKC division. Additional Supported Entry applications above the limited number allowed will be reviewed and handled on an individual basis by the Specialty Event Chair and MCA BOD.

  5. There should be reasonable assurance from the membership in the area that the number of dogs showing will provide majors for dogs and bitches. The Point Schedule for each Division is revised by AKC annually and published in April. The Point Schedule may be found on the AKC website. (www.akc.org)

  6. Once the Specialty Event Chair in consultation with the MCA BOD approves the application it will then be sent on to the Secretary in a timely fashion to "notify" the members of the approved Supported Entry. The Secretary will send the letter to the AKC all-breed club approving the Supported Entry with a copy going to the Supported Entry Chair.

  7. The club must comply with the AKC rules regarding the prizes and trophies offered and they must be listed properly in the premium list, judging program, and catalog. The membership is responsible for donating the trophies for the Supported Entry. Trophies must be offered for Best of Breed, Best Opposite, Best of Winners, Winner's Dog, Winner's Bitch at a minimum. At the option of the membership in the area, trophies may be offered for Reserve Winner’s Dog and Bitch, and class placements, and in other events such as Obedience and Rally. NOTE: Special Trophies for Best Puppy, Best Bred-by and Best Veteran may be offered by the Regional Committee ONLY if the hosting kennel club is holding one of the specific competitions for all breeds entered on the day of the Supported Entry.
